Forgotten Pistons (IV) Cedric The Entertainer

If I remember it correctly, there was lot of optimism surrounding Ceballos in Detroit for the 00-01 season– the season prior he scored a cool 16.6 a game in just under 30 minutes with Dallas. Well, his stint in Detroit didn’t exactly set anything of consequence on fire. Cedric played all of 13 games (12.8 min/gm) before getting shipped out to Miami not even a month into the season.  However, big picture wise Ceballos had quite a successful career for a second round draft pick out of Cal-Fullerton, and I’m not even referring to his basketball achievements, which include an All-Star game invite in 95 and a Slam Dunk contest victory in 92. Ceballos is also a member of the 50 point club.

As for his successful career outside of hooping, maybe Ceballos was too focused on his acting (IMDB page) or rapping projects while he was briefly with Detroit? After all, he did dabble in both while still playing in the NBA. In fact, Ceballos released his own rap album in the summer of 2000 called Nuff Ced. This was just briefly prior to the trade that brought him to Detroit from Dallas. Hmm, Cedric the Entertainer was likely working on beats instead of conditioning. Cute. That might explain the sudden decline in his production. Interestingly enough, in 1994 Cedric and former Piston Dana Barros (along with Warren G) came out with a hiphop label called Flow On/Check It.

Ceballos is currently working for the Phoenix Suns as an emcee and also has a hand in a weekly Suns webcast. He also hosts a morning music program in Phoenix on FM radio.

But again, he just managed to play a measly 13 games for Detroit.

Don’t be surprised if we be forgetting you now Ced…
