Seven Detroit Pistons have started and received a DNP-CD this season

If you want to boil down the Pistons’ season – the up and down play, the excessive depth, the erratic coaching – to a single statistic, I think this it.

The Pistons have seven players who have both started and received a did not play-coach’s decision this season:

It’s important to note each of those seven Pistons earned a start because Pistons coach John Kuester determined they deserved to start, not just because they were replacing an injured or suspended player.

Three teams have more players with starts and DNP-CDs this season, but none of the three have more players who started without the player ahead of him missing a game due to injury or suspension.

Cleveland Cavaliers – 10

  • Ramon Sessions
  • J.J. Hickson
  • Ryan Hollins
  • Jamario Moon
  • Jawad Williams
  • Manny Harris
  • Joey Graham
  • Leon Powe
  • Alonzo Gee
  • Christian Eyenga

Hollins and Eyenga started only with Anderson Varejao out injured. Harris started only with Mo Williams or Boobie Gibson out injured. Gee started only with Anthony Parker out injured.

That leaves six Cavaliers who have a DNP-CD this season and have earned a start without the player ahead of him missing a game due to injury or suspension.

Washington Wizards – 9

  • JaVale McGee
  • Al Thornton
  • Andray Blatche
  • Trevor Booker
  • Hilton Armstrong
  • Yi Jianlian
  • Kevin Seraphin
  • Rashard Lewis
  • Alonzo Gee

Seraphin and Jianlian started only with Blatche out injured.

That leaves seven Wizards who have a DNP-CD this season and have earned a start without the player ahead of him missing a game due to injury or suspension.

Sacramento Kings – 8

  • Omri Casspi
  • Francisco Garcia
  • Jason Thompson
  • Donte Greene
  • Darnell Jackson
  • Eugene Jeter
  • Luther Head
  • Jermaine Taylor

Jackson started only with Thompson out injured. Jeter and Taylor started only with Tyreke Evans out injured.

That leaves five Kings who have a DNP-CD this season and have earned a start without the player ahead of him missing a game due to injury or suspension.
