Terrico White announces on Twitter that he won't be back with the Pistons

Terrico White, we hardly knew ya. Via his Twitter page:

Just got the news from @detroitpistons that they letting me go. Really didn’t get a chance because of injury. Putting it in God hands now.

This probably means White won’t count against the cap. Dan Feldman explained White’s contract situation, and how it was complicated by the lockout, here.

White never got on the court for the Pistons last year after a preseason injury. He’s a freakish athlete who would intrigue NBA teams if he can prove to be a point guard. Unfortunately, the Pistons drafted Brandon Knight to be their point guard of the future, they still have Will Bynum on the roster and they have indicated they hope to have Rodney Stuckey back. Chances are White would not get the minutes he needs to develop here.

Now, I know a lot of fans have seen the few White highlights that are out there and were excited about his potential as an athlete. But keep in mind, it’s rare for second round picks to materialize into legit NBA players and in White’s case, his injury probably cost him his best shot at getting any kind of prolonged playing time since the team was so bad last year. Oh, and for the people who love to play the, “OMG! Detroit could’ve totally drafted player x instead of player y!” game … Landry Fields was the only player taken after White in 2010 who did much as a rookie.

I’m sure the reasoning for the move and potential salary and roster implications will be better explained when the team announces it. If this was in the works, it makes more sense now why the Pistons invited D-League point guard Walker Russell Jr. to camp.
