Tayshaun Prince, expectedly as an even-handed veteran, had a more measured response than some of his teammates at Media Day on the playoffs question. While several Pistons said the team should make the playoffs, here’s Prince’s take, via Keith Langlois of Pistons.com:
“We are capable,” he said. “There are a lot of teams that are capable. The question is going and doing it. The important thing for us is how we start the season off.”
Slow starts have been a hallmark of Pistons basketball during recent seasons. In fact, if they hadn’t been so atrociously bad at the beginning of last season, they may have threatened for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with the way they finished the season. But Prince also noted an opportunity early for the team to develop some chemistry:
“Every year since I’ve been here, we’ve had an early road trip. The difference is that this is a younger team, but it could be a good thing we go on the road early – build our chemistry as far as on and off the basketball court. We can talk playoffs right now, but the important thing is how we start the season off.”
Between Nov. 2 and Nov. 10, the Pistons play at Phoenix, L.A. Lakers, Denver, Sacramento, Oklahoma City and Houston. How well they play on that trip should go a long way in determining whether the playoff projections are premature.
