Brian Windhorst is reporting that the Toronto Raptors have been offered the expiring deals of Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Stuckey, Villanueva for the high-flying forward Rudy Gay. Stuckey has been in no-man’s land for years now, and has failed to make the great leap forward that management expected after his solid rookie year, especially after a few dazzling playoff performances that rendered Chauncey Billups expendable. Villanueva has played inconsistently, literally, due to long bouts of being exiled to the pine under various head coaches who failed to put their trust in the jump-shooting big man. Detroit would gain an all-world athlete that is capable of the occasional jaw dropping play. Gay will be the most exciting player to suit up for the Pistons in years, and will mark a new era of “star” driven rosters.
Masai Ujiri, fresh off of unloading Andrea Bargnani, would unload another bloated contract of an inefficient player (advanced statistics are often not kind to Mr. Gay) and further cement his almost insanely positive reputation as a General Manager.
Whatever the case, it is clear the Pistons are not happy with the status quo, and exploring a number of options to put the team back to the map of basketball relevance.
