Detroit Pistons deal with Italian shooter Gigi Datome: two years, $3.5 million, source tells Y! Sports.
Well, well, well. Isn’t that interesting. The Pistons need shooting, and apparently this guy’s position is “shooter.” Must be an Italian thing.
Datome – a 6-foot-8 forward – shot averaged 16.4 points in 33.2 minutes per game for Roma last season, shooting 39.4 percent on 3-pointers and 92.6 percent on free throws. The year before, he made 43.2 percent of his 3-pointers and made 92.3 percent of his free throws. Those numbers are the marks of a good shooter.
It’s also reassuring the Pistons didn’t pluck Datome from nowhere. Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:
#Celtics, #Bucks, #Rockets, #Suns, #Spurs, #Grizz interested.
I’ve complained in the past the Pistons haven’t shown enough creativity in assembling their roster, but this is definitely a creative move. It’s easy to imagine Datome is a hidden gem, because none of us have seen any of his flaws, so I’m going to do just that.
Josh Smith throws an entry pass from the high post to a posting-up Greg Monroe. Uh oh, here comes the double team. Monroe kicks to
Danilo Gallinari Luigi Datome in the corner, where the shooter nails his a 3-pointer…
