What to look for
Through the early portion of the NBA schedule, the Indiana Pacers are unquestionably the best team in basketball. They have been nearly unbeatable save for a few road games against some tough competition.
The Pacers have lost on the road to the Chicago Bulls, Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder. That’s it.
To be fair, there is a faction that believes that their great record is a product of a soft schedule, and that is certainly true to some extent. Indiana has played the 22nd toughest schedule in the league so far, but in the same breath, the Miami Heat have played the easiest slate of games this year and nothing has been said about their inferior record in comparison to the Pacers.
Indiana has done it with a defense that is essentially making history. Indeed, if they maintain their current level, they will finish with the fourth-best statistical defense in NBA history.
In other words, the Detroit Pistons will have an incredibly tough task tonight in dealing with the frontline of Paul George, David West and Roy Hibbert.
Still, Detroit’s frontcourt trio is impressive in its own right and will give the Pacers some fits in tonight’s head-to-head contest, especially on the boards.
