According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Pistons are close to announcing this morning the hiring of head coach Stan Van Gundy and will hold a press conference tomorrow at the Palace to announce the hiring.

Van Gundy is expected to be named the President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach. He has also reportedly agreed to a a 5 year, 35 million dollar contract. Detroit Free Press’ Vincent Ellis says the notion to bring in Van Gundy started with a convincing presentation that took place at an initial meeting between the two parties in Los Angeles.

Ellis told 107.3 WBBL-FM in Western Michigan this morning that the presentation blew the socks off of Pistons owner Tom Gores.

Ellis also shared on “The WBBL Morning Show” that former Orlando GM Otis Smith made some pretty good moves before Orlando went into to mode of trying to make Dwight Howard happy and that he will be one of many targets for the opening at General Manager.

The Pistons are expected to make the announcement of Van Gundy signing sometime today or tomorrow.
