Jeff Bower Press Conference Audio Highlights

Did you miss this morning’s introductory press conference of new General Manager Jeff Bower? Joined by Pistons President Stan Van Gundy, Bower painted a picture of what he sees for the future of the Pistons franchise.

Here’s are the audio highlights of today’s Jeff Bower press conference.

Stan Van Gundy started things off by pointing out what stuck out about Jeff Bower during the interview process.

A lot of questions have been raised about the exact power of Stan Van Gundy. Bower talked about how he envisions his new role working in the organization.

Stan Van Gundy talked about how his 25 year relationship with Bower played a role in hiring him. Bower also touched on the relationship he built with Van Gundy as assistants at the collegiate level.

Van Gundy also shared about the hiring process and how team owner Tom Gores challenged him to interview the right candidates for the job. He also added that it’s not all about friendship, but about who was the best fit as General Manager of the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons president also said that the ‘Final Decision’ banter is overrated when it comes to the future. He also said that Jeff Bower will be the ‘primary guy, particularly during the season.

Bower left a good position at his hometown Marist College. He talked about the decision of leaving his coaching post for another chance at being an NBA executive.

Now at the helm, Bower talked about what’s next for the organization when it comes to player personnel, the 38th pick in the NBA Draft, and free agency.

Bower talked about his time in New Orleans and the accomplishments the team made on and off the court during the 2007-08 season.

He also understands that this job will be completely different than the one he held in New Orleans. He discussed what it will be like to build his team under his coach’s vision instead of his.
