The hiring of a Developmental League head coach is more important than ever starting with this season. As the Pistons move forward with owning their own Developmental League team, the stakes of getting the right man in place grow bigger by the minute.

Stan Van Gundy and Jeff Bower will be looking for someone that can develop their system while at the same time evaluating if his players can make the jump the the next level.

Van Gundy has said that he would like his full coaching and front-office staff in place by the start of September.

Yet it’d be ideal for a Developmental League coach to be in place by the time Summer League starts in Orlando this July.

Here’s a look at five candidates that could fill the opening head coaching job in for the Developmental League’s Grand Rapids franchise.
