We’ve reached another Summer League game day as the Pistons battle the Celtics tonight to round out the regular season part of OPSL play tonight at 7 PM ET.

There is a lot on the mind of the Pistons front office.

From free agency, to roster management and adjusting to new positions — there is a lot going on at this time of the year.

Let’s take a closer look, with this morning’s palace picks.

We start today with new Assistant General Manager Brian Wright, who told Detroit Free Press beat writer Vince Ellis that he jumped at the chance to work with Stan Van Gundy again.

"“That was a big draw for me,” Wright said. “Knowing the type of person that he is, the work that he does, his consistency as a person and as a coach was a big draw for me so I get to work with him.”"

Let’s make the switch to free agency, where the Pistons are still busy trying to find their final pieces to the 2014-15 season. Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops believes the Pistons are interested in signing another guard.

Roberts shot 36% from three last season and averaged 9 points per game as a backup in New Orleans.

The number one free agent target obviously is Greg Monroe. Stan Van Gundy spoke with the media before Tuesday’s action at the Orlando Summer League. Mlive’s David Mayo covered it thoroughly yesterday.

"If the Pistons use the rest of their cap space first, then sign Monroe, they could exceed his cap hold to match his best offer without cap ramifications. That potentially could create another $4.5 million in cap space if the Pistons care to use it this summer.Asked if there is a gentlemen’s agreement between the Pistons and Monroe and his agent David Falk to inform the team of any impending offer so it may respond accordingly — including possibly adding another free agent before signing Monroe, or scrambling for a sign and trade of one or both sides’ choosing — Van Gundy replied, “You always deal with people.”"

The gang at Piston Powered went 3-on-3 with free agent signee Cartier Martin. Dan Feldman shared his thoughts on the expectations of Martin heading into the season.

"That he’ll challenge for a rotation spot. I see Martin as a decent baseline for a back-of-the-rotation player, and I’d be fine with him filling that role. But if younger players like Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Singler, Jodie Meeks and even Jonas Jerebko and Luigi Datome earn all the wing minutes, all the better. Martin is a safety net in case Datome and Jerebko aren’t ready."

Well, the KCP train is rolling forward. Mlive’s David Mayo caught up with Stan Van Gundy yesterday and asked him about Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s performance in the Orlando Pro Summer League.

"“I like what I’ve seen so far,” Stan Van Gundy, Pistons’ president of basketball operations and head coach, said. “What I really like — besides, obviously, he’s putting up big numbers — but to me, what is more important is he is playing at a very high intensity level, bringing great energy, and doing a lot of other things.“He’s trying to get after it defensively. He got on the boards the other day. I liked his work in practice. So to me, those things are more important right now than the numbers he puts up. He’s been very, very aggressive.”"

Vince Ellis of the Free Press says that KCP could sit out the rest of the Summer League after injuring his ankle yesterday.

Ellis also asked KCP if he entertained sitting out the second half yesterday against the Miami Heat.

"“No, it was not even a though in my mind,” he said in the corridor of the Amway Center, the site of summer-league action. “I wanted to go out and finish the game. I knew I had a rough first half and I just wanted to come back in the second half and finish the game.”"
