Andre Drummond has yet to win significantly on the NBA level, but he now has a taste of championship glory.

The Pistons center won a gold medal in the World Cup with Team USA, which beat Serbia yesterday.

For the tournament, Drummond played the fewest minutes on the team and was the only American to receive a DNP-CD. But he contributed in the championship game, shooting 3-for-3 and grabbing two rebounds in five minutes.

Drummond joins a select few other Pistons to win gold medals while playing in Detroit:

  • Tayshaun Prince, 2008 Olympics and 2007 FIBA Americas Championship
  • Chauncey Billups, 2007 FIBA Americas Championship
  • Grant Hill, 1996 Olympics
  • Joe Dumars, 1994 World Championships

Isiah Thomas was named to the 1994 World Championships roster, but he didn’t play due to injury.

Though Drummond didn’t have a huge role, hopefully this experience will help him and the Pistons going forward.
