"The black writing on a whiteboard — two lines in all capital letters, underlined — was almost as stark as the message it conveyed in the Detroit Pistons’ locker room late Tuesday night.FIGHT OR FLIGHT?TOGETHER OR APART?"

Hopefully, this message – written in an area that is usually the provenance of the coach – is a clichéd response to losing rather than the address of specific concerns.

Every bad team feels like it could rip at the seems, but in recent seasons, the Pistons have. This has not been a cohesive group willing to fight through adversity. That doesn’t mean those issues remain, but it’s worth monitoring.

Really, the biggest hope is – whether the message’s inspiration is specific or vague – the Pistons answer its call.
