Shawne Williams has been claimed by the Detroit Pistons after being waived by New Orleans. He did not play any games for the Pelicans who briefly had him after the Heat traded him to make salaries work in the Dragic trade.

Williams is 29 years old and the Pistons will be his seventh NBA team in his nine-year career (which includes two seasons out of the league. Williams was averaging 7 points and 3 rebounds in 21 minutes over 44 games for the Heat. He was also shooting 40% on 3.5 threes per game, probably the main reason Stan Van Gundy desired him.

In my opinion, Williams is probably now the best small forward on the roster, clearing the absurdly low bar of Tayshaun Prince and Caron Butler. I would still prefer Jonas Jerebko.
