The Detroit Pistons held off the Dallas Mavericks 98-91 at the Palace of Auburn Hill on Wednesday as both teams will head into the all star break

This game was a tale of two halves as the Detroit Pistons jumped out to a 62-35 lead at halftime. The Pistons were moving the ball well which opened up shots that they were able to convert on. They also rebounded well as the Dallas Mavericks really struggle on the glass.

Coming out of the half, the Pistons looked lethargic and the Mavericks jumped on them as they outscored the Pistons by 12 in the third. The Pistons 1st half ball movement was gone and their offense became stagnant. They had turnover problems as well which lead to more possessions for the Mavericks.

Defensively, the Pistons gave up numerous open threes but luckily for them, Dallas wasn’t able to convert on these mistakes. The Pistons got the win which is what is important but this second half is another example of how wildly inconsistent the Pistons have been up to this point in the season.

B. Stan Van Gundy had a nine man rotation tonight. He made the decision to take out Andre Drummond with his foul trouble and play Aron Baynes in the first half. He also brought in Baynes to slow down Dirk Nowitzki as Drummond could not get out on the perimeter to contest Nowitzki’s jumpers. Other than that, it was a pretty standard rotation for the Pistons..
