Will the Detroit Pistons seek a Brandon Jennings reunion now that he’s been waived by the New York Knicks? According to Stan Van Gundy, he doubts Jennings would even consider it.

Brandon Jennings has been waived by the New York Knicks. Could the Pistons seek a reunion?

Stan Van Gundy says the only role available for Jennings, would be as the team’s third point guard, a role, he doesn’t see Jennings accepting,

Van Gundy via Detroit news:

"“With Ish here, I don’t think it would be a fit. From Brandon’s standpoint, my guess is he wants to go somewhere he can play,” Van Gundy said. “In a contract year, especially, he needs to get playing time and get seen. I hope it works for him. I really like him and he’s able to land something good this summer.”"

Perhaps if the Pistons had a crystal ball they would have pushed harder for dealing Reggie Jackson at the deadline?

Jennings remains one of the lesser efficient players in the league shooting under 40% from the field and 34% from the three point line. He’s still an excellent facilitator averaging 4.9 assists in under 25 minutes per game.

Jennings wouldn’t be any more of a defensive liability than Jackson has been this season and the team likely would have welcomed having another point guard on the team that sees the floor so well.

But Jackson wasn’t dealt and Van Gundy is right–Jennings wouldn’t be a first or second team point guard on this team.

That said, I’m all about upgrading the roster, whether it’s at the top or the final spot at the bottom.

Unfortunately, as Van Gundy stated, Jennings accepting a third string role on a middling team is likely unrealistic.

Still, it would have been awesome to see Jennings back in a Pistons’ uniform.
