Marcus Morris

Opening 2K16 Rating: 73

Closing 2K16 Rating: 76

Net Rating Change: +3

Projected 2K17 Rating: 78

Nobody knew just what the Detroit Pistons were getting in Marcus Morris when they acquired him in an absolute steal from the Phoenix Suns as part of the Suns’ salary dump.

The Suns were going all-out in their effort to sign LaMarcus Aldridge in the 2015 offseason (in spite of the fact that not only did they not sign Aldridge, they didn’t even manage to clear enough space to make a max offer to the star free agent), so NBA 2K can be forgiven for their poor rating of 73 for Morris going into the 2015-16 season.

What Morris became was a gritty heart-and-soul type player for the Pistons, which is admittedly hard to quantify in a ratings-based world.

His rating did uptick over the course of the season to a somewhat more reasonable 76, putting him in the ranks of guys like DeMarre Carroll, Trevor Ariza, Kent Bazemore and Joe Johnson. That seems pretty reasonable.

We think he’s still a bit underrated at 76. A rating of 78 seems a bit more reasonable, which would put him even with Evan Turner and a touch below Andre Iguodala.
