Tobias Harris

Opening 2K16 Rating: 79

Closing 2K16 Rating: 79

Net Rating Change: NC

Projected 2K17 Rating: 81

Tobias Harris came to town in a blockbuster move as the Pistons essentially fleeced the Orlando Magic. The Pistons sent the expiring contract of Brandon Jennings (fresh back from recovering from a ruptured Achilles) and the non-guaranteed contract of Ersan Ilyasova to the Magic in exchange for the 23-year old Harris who has a team-friendly contract worth about $15 million per year over the next four seasons.

The Magic did nothing of interest with the cap space they gained, other than absorbing another $6 million from the Pistons in the form of Jodie Meeks, who they also unloaded on the Magic. Apparently the Magic are really sorry for the way they treated president of basketball operations and Piston head coach Stan Van Gundy when he coached in Orlando.

The Magic did manage to package Ilyasova in a trade for Serge Ibaka from the Oklahoma City Thunder in a deal which debatably left the Magic worse than before the deal. Conversely, the Pistons have their small/power forward of the future.

Harris’ rating of 79 is fairly in line for the season he had and the rating didn’t change as the season went on. He’s still young and he hasn’t hit his prime yet, and a year with Stan Van Gundy’s coaching may do the young man wonders.

We think he’ll start the season a little higher than he closed last season, and he’ll likely improve in ratings as the season goes on.
