The NBA Draft night has finally arrived. The Detroit Pistons will be selecting 15th overall this year. What should we expect from the them?

It’s that time of the year! One of the biggest nights for most NBA fans has finally arrived! The NBA Draft night makes fans excited for fans who are watching their team pick a potential star, nervous for fans who watch their team pick a high risk, high reward type player, and a rotational bench player!

The Detroit Pistons own the 15th overall pick in this year’s draft. They did not draft anyone in the first round last year due to the Blake Griffin trade that sent their first overall pick to the LA Clippers.

With time ticking against them, here is everything you need to know about the Pistons in tonight’s NBA Draft!

Trades?

The Detroit Pistons have explored the option of trading the 15th overall pick. They also draft 45th in the second round. Mike Conley was most rumored to be traded to the Pistons in exchange for the pick. But all of those rumors have been shut down with yesterday’s trade that sent Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, Grayson Allen, and multiple draft picks.

The Conley trade doesn’t eliminate the Pistons from making trades. They could still look to trade for a rotation player or potentially a starter.

Not only could they trade for a player. But they could trade up or down in the draft. The Senior Adviser of the Detroit Pistons Ed Stefanski has made it clear that the Pistons have explored options of moving up and down in the draft.

Them moving up would probably force them to package a future first with the 15th pick. And moving down would likely see them getting two firsts for the 15th overall pick.

Who are the Pistons drafting?

The draft is exciting but also nerve-racking for most fans. And that doesn’t change for Pistons fans this year. Whether it’s their 15th or 45th pick, the Pistons need to find a gem in the with their draft picks.

That’s easier said than done. The NBA draft has proved to be a lottery type game. Most prospects at the position the Pistons will be drafting will either be high risk, high reward players, or rotational bench players.

The Pistons are likely going to be taking a high risk, high reward player. With their current state of the roster, the Pistons need a guy that has the potential to become a star player.

Their biggest hole in their roster? The wing position. Luckily for the Pistons, there are plenty of wings they can likely choose from when the time starts to tick for them.

Taking a high risk, high reward player has proven to be a good move in the past at 15. Both Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo were both drafted at 15 in the last 9 years. Maybe it’s the Pistons turn to finally find the hidden gem in the draft.
