Detroit Pistons: We’ve seen enough of Ellington and Joseph for the season

I have been a big supporter of Dwane Casey this season, as he has mostly done a fantastic job with this young group and deserves a lot of credit.

But one thing I cannot support is the way he continues to use his entire roster just about every night. The Detroit Pistons have a load of young guys competing for minutes, players who are either part of the future core or trying to work their way into it.

The Pistons are not trying to win games anyway, so these young guys should be getting maximum minutes to determine what role (if any) they will play in the future and whether the Pistons should bring them back in the offseason.

Instead, we continue to get a heavy dose of guys like Wayne Ellington and Cory Joseph, two guys who almost certainly won’t be with the team next season.

They played a combined 32 minutes, which seams excessive, even on the tail end of a back-to-back. Why not give more of these minutes to guys like Sekou Doumbouya and Frank Jackson?

This made more sense earlier in the season when Casey was really trying to make the young guys earn it, but now? It really makes no sense, as the Detroit Pistons need more footage and data on some of these guys, particularly Jackson.

Jackson has hit over 40 percent of his 3-point shots and has been on fire over his last ten, so why not give him some extended run at backup shooting guard so the Pistons can get a better idea of what he can be moving forward?

Casey needs to tighten these rotations, sit the veterans who aren’t likely to be with the team next season and get some quality developmental minutes for his young guys. This is a rebuilding season and the Pistons are not rebuilding around Wayne Ellington and Cory Joseph, sorry.
