Detroit Pistons needs in NBA Free Agency: A shooter

The Detroit Pistons were 21st in 3-point percentage this season even though Saddiq Bey broke about every rookie record for shooting from long range.

Adding Cade Cunningham will help, as he will take some of the focus off Jerami Grant, who is probably better suited to be a number two scoring option than the number one guy.

Cunningham will also collapse defenses and get open looks for his teammates with his passing, as elevating his teammates is one of his biggest strengths.

But the Pistons still only have a couple of guys in Grant, Bey and Frank Jackson who are above average 3-point shooters. Josh Jackson, Diallo, Lee and Doumbouya are all pretty terrible, so unless the Pistons can find a taker for Jackson in a trade, they will need to add a shooter in free agency.

Someone like Doug McDermott makes some sense as a target with the mid-level exception, but it might take the entire MLE to get him and the Pistons may be better off spreading that money around.

The Pistons might also count on some internal improvements and maybe a bigger role for rookie Deividas Sirvydis or try to grab a shooter in the second round of the NBA Draft, but it would be better if they could get at least one proven guy as well.
