Pistons’ Twitter Mailbag: The Ayton risk, Josh Hart, Zion and more
Detroit Pistons’ Twitter mailbag: Reader questions about the offseason
I absolutely love Josh Hart and thought he made a nice leap this season. His hustle and defense would make him a fan-favorite right away and he is on a value contract that he outplayed.
However, after the Pelicans won last night, the chances of Portland trading for Grant diminished, as the 2022 lottery pick they thought they were getting just turned into Milwaukee’s 2025 1st-rounder.
Also, I think Portland really loves Hart, as he played well for them after the McCollum trade, and they have a trade exception they can use on Grant, so don’t need to send back any money.
I love Hart, but he’s not likely to come to Detroit in a trade.
I wrote a long piece about the chances the Pistons would trade for Zion Williamson if he were to be made available.
It was fun to write and think about, but I’d say the chances of New Orleans trading Zion are less than zero. They just made the playoffs without him and have to think that a healthy Zion makes them a contender next season.
He’s coming off an injury, so they’d never get equal value for a guy who is a generational superstar when healthy. Contrary to what people in New York tell you, Zion likes New Orleans and that team is building something special, so I don’t see him demanding a trade or turning down a max extension.
That being said, if they made him available, the Detroit Pistons would be nuts not to at least inquire, as putting him with Cade would be a game-changer for the franchise. Risky, yes, but the only way you are getting a guy like Zion is by getting extremely lucky or taking a huge risk.
I’d go for it, but it’s not going to happen.
