Constructing a Pistons “dream team” if they nailed every Draft

2019: Grant Williams over Sekou Doumbouya with the 15th pick

There are a lot of possible choices here, as pretty much every player taken after Doumbouya ended up being better. But this team needs some role players and I don’t feel like paying Jordan Poole, so took Williams, a tough 3-and-D forward. Doumbouya was defensible at the time, as Detroit was looking for high-ceiling talent and this wasn’t a very good draft, but he is now on the bench for a G-League team in Delaware and will be lucky to be in the league at all soon.

Dream Team final roster

It’s hard to decide who would even start for this team it is so good, but here’s the final roster, including the picks from 2020 to present day.

  • Cade Cunningham/Jaden Ivey
  • Klay Thompson/Donovan Mitchell/Devin Booker
  • Paul George/Jerami Grant
  • Draymond Green/Pascal Siakam/Grant Williams
  • Giannis Antetokoumpo/Bruce Brown

I’m pretty sure that starting five could challenge the actual Dream Team and if your squad has Mitchell and Booker coming off the bench, you know it is pretty good.

Obviously, this was just a bit of fun, as no team nails the draft every year, but when you look at the list of guys the Pistons could have had, it’s almost a miracle that they managed to avoid the top talent every single year.
