Tayshaun Prince wants to be wanted for Olympic team he almost assuredly won’t actually play for

Despite playing in Beijing, Tayshaun Prince wasn’t on the initial list for Team USA’s 2010-12 roster. It appears that may have been only due to Jerry Colangelo not having Prince’s cell phone number. (Doesn’t that seem a little amateurish?).

So, the door is still open. But despite his dismay about being left of the list, it doesn’t seem like Prince will actually want to play. From Chris Tomasson of FanHouse:

""I look at it this way,” said Prince, who averaged 4.3 points and 11.1 minutes while getting into all eight 2008 Olympic games. "They know what I can do. If they decide they want me down the road or what not, I’d be willing to take the call or what not. But I think they just assumed what happened to me during the course of the season, my ruptured disk in my back, I would take this summer off, and they’re probably 100 percent right. We’ll see what happens.”"

Besides his rehabilitation, I doubt Prince would make the team. I hope he regains the defensive form that landed him on the team in the first place. But I imagine Team USA can do better this time around.
