Pistons coaching candidate Dwane Casey hired by Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have reportedly hired Dwane Casey as their head coach. Casey, fresh coming off an NBA Finals championship as the lead assistant and defensive specialist for the Dallas Mavericks, was thought to be one of the top contenders for the coaching vacancy in Detroit. The Dallas Morning News reports:

"Just got a call from a Toronto source saying that Mavericks assistant Dwane Casey is expected to be announced as head coach of the Raptors. It could be announced this afternoon.Casey has interviewed twice with the Raptors and their decision has come down to Casey and Boston assistant Lawrence Frank."

As someone who is rooting for either Frank or Kelvin Sampson to get the Pistons job, I couldn’t be happier. Nothing against Casey, per se, but he had already failed as a head coach in Minnesota (albeit for awful teams) whereas Frank has had success in the NBA and Sampson has had ample success in colllege and has cut his teeth as an NBA assistant with two defensive-minded organizations — the San Antonio Spurs and the Milwaukee Bucks.
