This is what happens when you use all your roster spots and most of your cap room on Jodie Meeks, Cartier Martin and Aaron Gray.
The Pistons were once in the running for restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas, but they no longer has the space to offer Thomas the three-year, $24 million contract they once reportedly proposed. A sign-and-trade predicated on the other team valuing Josh Smith was always a pipedream.
