Pistons reportedly don’t want to dump Josh Smith

Sam Amick of USA Today:

Addendum to earlier Pistons intel: they’re not eager to part ways with Josh Smith as has been indicated. Value him and not eager to dump.

I hope this is just posturing.

As Stan Van Gundy has repeatedly indicated, Josh Smith, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond can’t play together regularly. Bringing Smith off the bench would break up the trio, but I’m not sold Smith would quietly accept such an arrangement. He might express a willingness to do so, but I don’t trust that lasting throughout a full season.

Smith makes too much money, and his fit is too poor. If the Pistons can dump him, they should. They’re better off increasing flexibility and giving Monroe and Drummond a fair chance to thrive together.
