Lack of insurance might keep Ben Gordon from playing for Great Britain

Great Britain has always had a surprising amount of talent in international competition, thanks to Britain-born Luol Deng and Ben Gordon. But although Deng is reportedly all set to play, Gordon hasn’t been able to find an insurance policy to his liking as a result of the NBA lockout. From the BBC:

"(British Basketball’s performance director Chris) Spice said: “It is difficult and it is complex and if I was a betting man I don’t think it is going to happen unfortunately.“We’ll know on Monday but it is looking unlikely.“In the end we have not been able to afford the same level of cover he would get in a normal year in an NBA deal.”"

That’s unfortunate. I’m a big fan of players finding any opportunity to play during the lockout, especially a player like Gordon, whose confidence could possibly benefit by playing well in the Eurobasket competition. Ah well, there’s always pro-am leagues I guess.
