Los Angeles Clippers reach out to Tayshaun Prince

A report in the L.A. Times says that the Los Angeles Clippers have contacted Detroit Pistons free agent small forward Tayshaun Prince to gauge his interest in joining the Clippers.

Prince grew up in Los Angeles and could be the steady, veteran presence a young team like the Clippers need to complement stars Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon.

The Clippers have enough room under the salary cap to offer Prince more than the mid level exception, however, if the Pistons are interested in a sign-and-trade offer, the Clippers could be a logical dance partner.

If Detroit is serious about adding size to the roster, the Clippers have veteran big man and Michigan native Chris Kaman to offer.

Although Kaman has battled injuries the past couple years, he is a competent big man who is a better defender than offensive presence and is respectable on the boards. He is entering the last year of his deal in Los Angeles so if the Pistons have trouble finding filling their holes in free agency, turning to Kaman makes sense. He could also be flipped at the trade deadline as an expiring contract to a team that needs help in the frontcourt.
