Former Piston Walker Russell Jr. back with Fort Wayne Mad Ants
Former Piston Walker Russell Jr. was cut in training camp by the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he’ll be back in familiar surroundings. He was added to the roster of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, where he played last season before he was signed by the Pistons, according to a news release.
Russell Jr. averaged 16.0 points and 9.9 assists per game for Fort Wayne last season. The Pistons don’t own his rights or anything, but it’s nice insurance that he’ll be with their D-League affiliate in case they have an injury in their backcourt. Russell didn’t play all that well for the Pistons last season, but his passing did give the team a bit of a lift in a few games since he was the only natural point guard on the roster.
