Corey Maggette critiques how Brandon Knight and Andre Drummond handle traps
By Dan Feldman
"Pistons point guard Brandon Knight has been caught three times recently in trap situations when he didn’t call a timeout and committed a turnover, including in Monday’s game against the Nuggets. Corey Maggette said part of that was that Drummond needs to present a better passing target when he sees the point guard in trouble. "Brandon needs to do a better job too of knowing when to call the timeout, too," Maggette said. "He didn’t want someone to take the ball from him but that (not calling timeout) is just his competitive nature. We just need to do better. But these young guys, they’ll get better.""
As I said when Tayshaun Prince similarly critiqued the Pistons’ younger players, I appreciate the candor and additional perspective on Detroit’s on-court play. Unlike Prince, Corey Maggette has no history of being part of locker-room problems with the Pistons, so Maggette’s comments don’t really worry me. I just hope Brandon Knight and Andre Drummond heed the lesson.
