Pistons want Jose Calderon back, but Kings and others are courting

Chris Broussard of ESPN:

"Pistons also intent on bringing back Jose Calderon"

HoopsHype:

"Free agent guard Jose Calderon is meeting with the Kings in Sacramento today, agent Mark Bartelstein tells HoopsHype."

Tim MacMahon of ESPN:

"It’s no surprise then that the Mavs are among several teams to express interest in point guards Jose Calderon and Mo Williams, according to a league source. The Mavs have long been intrigued by Calderon, who they discussed trading for last season. Calderon is also drawing interest from Detroit, Houston, Atlanta and New York among other teams."

I wrote about it more at ProBasketballTalk, but it seems like the writing is on the wall. Retaining Jose Calderon seems like an uphill climb for the Pistons.

If Calderon signs elsewhere, it becomes increasingly likely the Pistons hand the starting point guard job back to Brandon Knight or maybe even Rodney Stuckey, which would be pretty disappointing at this point. If Knight (or maybe even Stuckey) beats out a player who has proven more, that’s one thing. But simply getting the job by default – as has been the case the last few years – wouldn’t indicate the incumbent has really improved.
