Pistons have about $8 million of cap room

After signing Josh Smith for $56 million or $54 million, the Pistons still have about $8 million in cap room, as reflected on the updated salaries page.

That figure assumes the Pistons will renounce all their free agents, max-raise estimates for Smith’s contract structure and a $58.5 million salary cap – none of which has been confirmed.

So, roughly, the Pistons have about $8 million and the room mid-level exception, which has a starting salary of $2,652,000, to use on free agents. The cap room and the exception cannot be combined.
