(Author’s note: Second of a five-part series examining and ranking the Central Division by position as teams gear up for Training Camp.)

In what has become a rather position-less game, the NBA has seen a lot of teams take on the idea of putting the best players on the floor, instead of filling a position. This new brand of basketball has led to plenty of strange lineups over the years, but one position that has stayed relevant throughout the years has been the shooting guard spot. With which ever lineup a coach puts out there, whether it’s based off the concept of “small ball” or “big ball,” there is always a need for a shooter on the court to help spread the floor for the offense.

The Central Division is full of young promising talent at the shooting guard position. From breakout player of the year and Most Improved Player of the year, Indiana Pacer guard Paul George, to young prospect Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls, who is bound for a breakout season in 2014. There is no shortage to exciting matchups throughout the division, which will make for great 1-on-1 matchups among 2-guards.
