Brady got his wish. The Pistons’ D-League team in Grand Rapids will be called the Drive, and they unveiled their new logo:
If I weren’t directed to the Pistons’ old logo, I’m not sure I would have noticed the connection. The font is different in size and style, defining distinguishers, and the red and blue are lighter (as are the Pistons’ current versions of their primary colors relative to 20-35 years ago).
I appreciate Grand Rapids calling attention to such a proud era of Pistons basketball, and I definitely don’t dislike the Drive’s logo. But with a lot of white space replacing the bold blue and red of the Pistons’ old logo, it looks a little bland.
I’ll give it time to grow on me – while the Drive hopefully give the Pistons’ prospects time to grow, too.
