Justin Harper — Power Forward

Another draftee of Stan Van Gundy, Harper has shown superior athletic skills for his size throughout the years, but just hasn’t been able to stick in the NBA.

Mainly because he hasn’t even come close to living up to his potential.

When the Magic bought his draft rights from the Cavaliers in 2011, the thought was they would have  big that could replace Dwight Howard.

Instead they got a big man that only played in 14 games and was waived after the season.

After chances with the Pacers and Cavaliers in Summer League, Harper made is way to Israel last season to play with Tel.  He averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds and 23 minutes per game overseas.

Harper gets another chance her mainly because of his Stan Van Gundy connection.

If Brendan Malone, who will be assisting Bob Beyer, sees something he could build on — chances are Harper will get a chance with the Pistons of Grand Rapids Drive.

If there is anyone that can build Harper into an NBA role player, it would be Malone.

It will be interesting to see if Harper’s game has evolved at all. If not it could be an interesting dynamic alongside Tony Mitchell in the frontcourt.
