"Caldwell-Pope, a second-year guard, was officially named a starter for Detroit’s season opener Wednesday night against Denver. He’ll join point guard Brandon Jennings, small forward Kyle Singler, power forward Josh Smith, and center Andre Drummond."
I’m glad Stan Van Gundy reached this conclusion.
With Jodie Meeks hurt, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – once healthy – was the clear man for the job at shooting guard. This means he’s healthy, an encouraging sign for the Pistons.
The more interesting question was at small forward, where Singler was competing with Caron Butler. The 34-year-old Butler just can’t handle such a major role, though it seemed Van Gundy gave the veteran every chance to take the job. Singler is younger, better and the right choice.
