Pistons’ D-League affiliate drafts Robert Covington No. 1

As expected, the Grand Rapids Drive selected Robert Covington with the No. 1 pick in the D-League draft.

Covington — a 23-year-old, 6-foot-9 forward — won D-League Rookie of the Year last season while playing on assignment from the Houston Rockets.

Though the Pistons’ affiliate now has Covington’s D-League rights, any NBA team can sign him. The Pistons just have an inside track in developing and evaluating Covington.
