In the Pistons’ loss to the Bulls on Monday, Josh Smith attempted that horrendous 3-pointer. Whether or not he made it — he didn’t — it was a low-percentage look.
Even he realized that.
Smith, via Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:
"“Momentum, trying to do a home run instead of hit a single,” Smith said. “I was just swinging for the fences to be able to try to calm the crowd down, but you learn from those mistakes.“I constantly beat myself up in the head for it, and the next opportunity I have, I’ll approach the situation differently.”"
Smith notoriously — and misguidedly — defends his shot selection as having confidence in himself. That he beats himself up for this attempt is a true breakthrough.
Will it actually lead to positive change in his shot selection? I’ll believe it when I see it.
