Vincent Goodwill Jr. of The Detroit News:

"The Pistons feared the worst for Brandon Jennings and now they must embark upon life without the point guard for the rest of the season, as an MRI confirmed a full tear of his left Achilles Sunday afternoon."

In case you thought Jennings’ “6/9months” tweet meant something else, it apparently didn’t. The Pistons’ initial diagnosis was spot on.

Honestly, 6-to-9 months might be optimistic. A few players returning quickly after tearing their Achilles has distorted perception of the standard recovery period.

I don’t blame Jennings for eyeing a (relatively) quick return, and I hope he’s right. But this is a serious injury that will keep him sidelined a long time. We should acknowledge the possibility he misses some of next season.
