Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, after the Pistons’ win over the Nuggets on Saturday, on Greg Monroe:

"he revealed he played the game with more important matters on his mind.“It’s crazy, it means a lot, especially today,” Monroe said softly. “I lost my grandmother this morning so it definitely means a lot to me.”Monroe, who described days as a child at his grandmother’s house, put the extra motivation to good use."

Monroe dominated, scoring 21 points and grabbing 21 rebounds. It was a sweet performance, and I appreciate knowing it meant more to Monroe. There’s no perfect way to handle a situation like that, but if playing well brought Monroe happiness, that’s just great.

Condolences to him and his family.
