I’m a sucker for Bill Simmons’ trade-value rankings. So, I created a list using the same criteria – production, contract status and age – for the Pistons. The order runs lowest-to-highest value.
No. 11 Luigi Datome
2014/15 | |
Luigi Datome | $1,750,000 |
There isn’t much difference between Datome and Joel Anthony, who ranked one spot lower on this list. Both are on expiring contracts, and neither plays much – though Anthony, as a big man, finds an on-court use a little more often.
So why does Datome rank higher? He makes less money.
Between two players who don’t provide anything, teams would probably rather pay Datome $576,471 than Anthony $1,251,765
the rest of the season.
