Pistons trade-value rankings No. 3: Greg Monroe
By Dan Feldman
I’m a sucker for Bill Simmons’ trade-value rankings. So, I created a list using the same criteria – production, contract status and age – for the Pistons. The order runs lowest-to-highest value.
No. 3 Greg Monroe
2014/15 | |
Greg Monroe | $5,479,935 |
I covered Monroe in greater depth previously, and if he had signed long-term this summer – even on a max contract – he’d easily rank second on this list.
As it stands, he would have fallen behind a healthy Brandon Jennings.
By accepting the qualifying offer, Monroe lowered his trade value – to the Pistons because he signaled he wants to leave and to other teams because they wouldn’t get his Bird Rights. That he can veto any deal isn’t helping anything.
Still, contenders could still use him as a rental for the rest of the season. It’s not as if he’s without value.
Monroe is productive and young. Once he gets his contract situation sorted out, his trade value should soar.
