Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:

"Van Gundy is a finalist for the Rudy Tomjanovich Award which goes to the coach who is cooperative with the media and the fans."

This seems deserved.

Despite his gruff exterior, Stan Van Gundy generally helps the media. His frank answers are arguably the best form of cooperation. They truly let the fans into the inner-workings of the team.

Though Van Gundy might be using the media to send messages to his players at times, I don’t think that’s usually his primary goal. I think he’s mostly just honest, which is about all the media and fans should ask.
