Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders on Quincy Miller’s contract:
"2015/16 salary non-guaranteed; $50k guaranteed if not waived on or before 7/15/15; $100k guaranteed if not waived on or before 1st regular season game; $125k if not waived on or before 11/15/15"
When the Pistons signed Quincy Miller through next season, we couldn’t really assess the deal because we didn’t know the guarantee dates. With that info, the contract looks good for the Pistons.
They don’t have to guarantee Miller anything until after summer league (assuming the Orlando schedule mirrors last year), and they’ll also have time to do their major free-agent shopping before making a decision.
Remember LeBron James’ free agency last summer, which seemed to drag fooooreeeveeer. He announced his decision July 11. Miller isn’t guaranteed anything until July 16 – and even then, it’s just $50,000.
This deal points to Miller getting a training-camp invite, but it’s easy to escape if the Pistons would rather have the cap room.
