Chad Ford of ESPN:

"The Pistons’ pick is being shopped around"

This isn’t the first time Ford has mentioned the Pistons looking to trade their first-round pick, but he’s a lot more straightforward here.

I’m certainly not adverse to deal the pick, and I hope the Pistons are trying to ascertain its value.

But I just hope they’re not looking to trade it for a veteran just to speed up the rebuilding process. I don’t think they are, but when you have a coach running your front office, that’s the risk.

Stan Van Gundy isn’t used to losing. Last season was the first time he missed the playoffs. He surely doesn’t want to again, and a veteran – more than a rookie – could help Detroit escape the lottery next season.

The Pistons’ primary goals should be longer-term, though. So, the value of the No. 8 pick – due to the low-paying contract attached and the youth of a player drafted there – are high.
