Hardwood Paroxysm‘s EJ Maroun has a neat little machine that converts today’s crazy free agent contracts with their salary equivalent during the pre-cap explosion last season. It basically takes these big-money deals and formulates how they’d look — based on the cap — last season.
Here’s the Pistons new center, Aron Baynes, reported 3 year, $20 million deal:
Baynes’ deal is comparable to big men like Luis Scola, Timofey Mozgov and Chris Kaman. I’m not high on this deal at all, but before everybody melts down over the idea that Baynes just made $10,000,000,000 today, realize it’s really not that big of a salary in comparison to what comparable guys have received.
