This move foreshadows future moves that the Pistons are likely to make. Adding a back up point-guard gives the Pistons flexibility to move Brandon Jennings, provided they can find a suitor. Considering the fact that a torn Achilles is one of the hardest to come back from for an NBA player, the market for Jennings is likely limited.

The hope is that Jennings will be ready to play at the start of next season, that he’ll play well, and that the market for him will improve enough to use him as a trade deadline asset. On the other hand, if Jennings plays well and nobody wants him, the Pistons end up with a good young guard with something to prove. That isn’t the worst problem to have.

This move gets a B.
