The Pistons have been a team that has experienced some peaks and valleys over the past 30 years. They have been fortunate enough to be one of the few teams in the NBA that has won championships, let alone repeated once and nearly repeated in 2004-05 in an unbelievably hard fought battle against the San Antonio Spurs.

They have been to six straight Eastern Conference Finals in the 2000’s, and they have spent time as one of the worst teams in the league.

The teal era was kind of in between.

Between 1996-97 and 2000-01, the Pistons went 194-184. Not good, not bad, just mediocre. That era played an important role in that which came next, though, and the results of the struggle the team went through during that era is one that Pistons fans will long be grateful for.
