We’re about a week and a half into the 2015-16 NBA season, which means that we’re months closer to the announcement of last season’s Most Valuable Player than we are to that of this season’s MVP. It’s never too soon to start throwing names out there in the form of MVP rankings though.
There are some surprises in this top five list, including some guys who are on it, and a few guys who are currently nowhere near the discussion for MVP. Guys like James Harden and Anthony Davis have struggled mightily to start the season. Lebron James is still putting up numbers that for anybody else would be outstanding, but by his own standard and the standard of the top end players right now are a left wanting
On the other hand, Damian Lillard has his Portland Trail Blazers surging to a 4-2 record that might be the biggest shock of the NBA season. Portland lost four of their five starters in this past offseason and have been widely projected to be one of the worst teams in the Western Conference, but they just smoked the Memphis Grizzlies by a score of 115-96 on Thursday night behind 27 points from Lillard. Nobody knows just what to make of the Blazers right now, and that’s because Lillard has elevated his game.
Another player you all might have heard of, one Andre Drummond, has taken the league by storm this year. Drummond has led the Detroit Pistons to an early 3-1 record behind the strength of his 20.3 points and 19.5 rebounds per game. The Pistons’ hot start to the season never happens if they don’t have Drummond beast-moding on the floor.
With that said, let’s see who makes the Piston Powered MVP rankings top five.
